Most of our board members are tenants on the estate, each of us have different backgrounds, life experiences and skills that help us to deal with our responsibilities and training is available as required. Our main duties are to oversee the running of the EMB as a business, we are a not for profit organisation and we rely on our annual allowances from the city council.
The board along with our managers and accountants set a budget each year for the technical and housing teams. We ensure our organisation take full responsibilities for day to day repairs and issues on the estate as per our management agreements with the city council. We also have some co-opted board members who have an interest in the estate and/or bring specialist skills, knowledge and experiences that benefit us.
As board members we do not get involved directly in day to day issues, due to data protection we have no access to tenant’s files or information. None of the tenant board members or the co-opted members get paid, we are all volunteers.
Anybody who is a tenant and a shareholder can apply to become a board member if there are vacancies. All new positions are available annually and ratified by a vote at our AGM which is held in November each year
